Schools Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a critically important
aspect of building and maintaining school facilities. Twenty percent
of the U.S. population, over 60 million people, spend their days
in our elementary and secondary schools. In the mid-1990s, studies
show that 1 in 5 of our nation's 110,000 schools reported unsatisfactory
indoor air quality, and 1 in 4 schools reported ventilation -- which
impacts indoor air quality -- as unsatisfactory. Over the past 10
years we have many more schools and much higher amounts of poor
air quality. Students are at a greater risk because of the hours
spent in school facilities and because children are especially susceptible
to pollutants. The EPA studies now show that almost half of all
the nations schools have IAQ problems. Mold, airborne particles
and odors represent most of the problems. The advent of the "tight"
school building as well as the portable classroom, has increased
IAQ problems in too many school districts across the country.
The so-called "tight" school building
now exhibit problems similar to the so-called "sick building
syndrome" affecting office buildings, with both students and
staff exhibiting various ailments such as red, tearing and itchy
eyes, running noses, sore throats and other cold like symptoms.
These symptoms are prevalent primarily while students and staff
are in the school building. The California Air Resources Board study
titled "Environmental Health Conditions in California's Portable
Classrooms" delineated the extensive contaminant problems including
high formaldehyde levels, mold and musty odors, toxic residues in
floor dust and many other severe IAQ problems.
The installation of our ActiveOx
bipolar ionization system, will quickly remove dangerous airborne
particles missed by other air cleaning systems, including most mold
spores, dust, bacteria and viruses, allergens, mold, VOC emissions,
smoke and neutralizes all odors, therefore providing a comfortable
clean healthy environment for the student and staff. As a further
benefit, ActiveOx reduces the need
for the introduction of large amounts of outside air, still accomplishing
these vital results without producing any harmful ozone. Our ActiveOx
bipolar ion technology will also provide the facility with the most
economically advantageous position by dramatically reducing the
cost of energy, as the school buildings will no longer be forced
to draw large amounts of outside air into the HVAC system in order
to minimize the effects of pollutants and therefore very quickly
pays for this economical system through a reduction of energy costs
as well as less absenteeism.
